Lamar Garren’s practice is focused on the representation of individuals, entrepreneurs, small and large businesses and corporations in all types of civil litigation and business transactions. He began his career in Baltimore at Piper & Marbury (now DLA Piper) where he became a partner and member of the Commercial Litigation, Commercial Finance & Real Estate, and Antitrust and Trade Regulation Groups. He and his family returned to Charlottesville where he has continued to focus on business transactions and controversies. Mr. Garren has handled litigation in the state and federal courts of Virginia and Maryland, including commercial litigation representations emphasizing high risk real estate, commercial and secured lending, and product distribution controversies. He has represented financial institutions, mortgage lenders, owners, developers, title insurance underwriters and agents in disputes involving purchase and development agreements, foreclosures, title disputes, land use controversies, construction claims, real estate transactions and lender liability. In addition to courtroom litigation, he has represented clients in arbitration and mediation proceedings, particularly in connection with construction, franchise, and real estate matters. Mr. Garren’s business practice has included: representation of entrepreneurs in the acquisition and sale of, and investment in, small businesses; representation of trademark holders and owners of other intellectual property in licensing agreements and disputes; and representation of motor vehicle dealers and others in matters related to business torts, trade secrets, trademark and patent disputes, government contracts and consumer protection matters. He also has an extensive bankruptcy practice representing businesses and individuals in bankruptcy proceedings. When Mr. Garren represents individuals in consumer bankruptcies, under federal law, he acts as a debt relief agency, helping people file for bankruptcy relief under the Bankruptcy Code. |
